Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

During installation of Oracle Application Server 10.1.3.X, installer will deploy the Application Server Control application, also known as "ascontrol" into the "home" OC4J container. If you have only one container and have deployed all your custom applications into the same container it may be a challenge to maintain them. For example, if you need to configure this container to have more than one JVM you will receive following error:

This OC4J instance is currently hosting the active Application Server Control.
As a result, the "Number of VM Processes" field is disabled.
Application Server Control (ascontrol) cannot run on an OC4J instance configured to run multiple OC4Js.

In this case, it is required to have Application Server Control and custom applications deployed to different containers.
The goal of this document is to provide the steps required to move the "ascontrol" application to a new OC4J container.

Please note that OC4J "home" instance is not recommended for hosting custom applications.
The prefer solution would be to move the custom applications to a new oc4j instance.
If for whatever reason the ascontrol application need to be moved, then the following steps can be applied.
