Unable to Discover Exadata Database Nodes in EM 12c When Using Backup Hostname (Doc ID 1530073.1)

Last updated on FEBRUARY 19, 2013

Applies to:

Enterprise Manager Base Platform - Version 12.1.0.1.0 to 12.1.0.2.0 [Release 12.1]
Enterprise Manager for Exadata - Version 12.1.0.1.0 to 12.1.0.2.0 [Release 12.1]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Discovery of an X3-2 Exadata Database Machine target in EM Cloud Control 12.1.0.2.1 fails to find Compute Nodes and errors with:

"The selected compute node is not an existing host target managed by Enterprise Manager. Please add the compute node as managed target before you continue."

The agent is installed using a custom (additional) hostname for management network, in this case this interface is used for RMAN backups.

Example: axdb0101c-mi.acme.com  << This is where the agent was installed

Hostname: axdb0101c.acme.com  << This is what the "hostname" command returns on the compute node itself

IB switches ibnetdiscover show: axdb0101c-adm.acme.com  << This is the ADMIN hostname

Changes

Installed the agent on a dedicated hostname that is used for Management traffic (RMAN and DataGuard)
