Unable to Discover Exadata Database Nodes in EM 12c When Using Backup Hostname (Doc ID 1530073.1)

Last updated on JANUARY 31, 2020

Applies to:

Enterprise Manager Base Platform - Version to [Release 12.1]
Enterprise Manager for Exadata - Version to [Release 12.1]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Discovery of an X3-2 Exadata Database Machine target in EM Cloud Control fails to find Compute Nodes and errors with:

"The selected compute node is not an existing host target managed by Enterprise Manager. Please add the compute node as managed target before you continue."

The agent is installed using a custom (additional) hostname for management network, in this case this interface is used for RMAN backups.

Example: <HOST_NAME>.<DOMAIN_NAME>  << This is where the agent was installed

Hostname: <HOST_NAME>.<DOMAIN_NAME>  << This is what the "hostname" command returns on the compute node itself

IB switches ibnetdiscover show: <HOST_NAME>.<DOMAIN_NAME>  << This is the ADMIN hostname

Installed the agent on a dedicated hostname that is used for Management traffic (RMAN and DataGuard)
