Purpose

To understand how the Database up/down status in Enterprise Manager (EM) Cloud Control is calculated and to provide troubleshooting steps, if the status is deemed to be incorrect.

 Background
 A) Viewing the Monitoring Configuration
 i) targets.xml 
 ii) Viewing the Monitoring Configuration in the console

 C) Troubleshooting the Incorrect Status
 Steps to follow if the database shows an incorrect status in the console:
 1) If the Database is showing "Down" but it's actually "Up":
 Test a sqlnet connection to the database
 2) Check that the agent is running correctly
 a) Check the agent status output:
 b) check for any blackouts:
 3) Check the results of the Response Metric either by metrics browser or by getmetric command.
 a) From metrics browser 
 b) From getmetric command.
 4) Is the Response Metric scheduled?
 5) Check the severity on the agent
 6) Run the Response metric manually
 7) clearstate the agent
 8) Stop and re-start the agent
 9) Check the agent log files
