12c Cloud Control Agent sends false Database Down Alerts for Target Databases running on SOLARIS 9 (Doc ID 1551890.1)

This issue is only reported on SUN SOLARIS 9 ( 64 bit ). DO NOT follow this documents if your OS is different .

Symptoms

The 12c Agent on SOLARIS 9 sends false email notifications which indicate that the database is down.

The database was 'up' at the time period indicated in the email, and no errors were written to the database alert log or the listener log. 

In addition the agent generates core dumps under <Agent ORACLE_BASE>/agent_inst/sysman/emd.

The alerts are intermittent and can take the following forms:

Message=Failed to connect to database instance: Io exception: Bad packet type.
Failed to connect to database instance: Io exception: Bad packet type.
Incident created by rule (Name = Incident management Ruleset for all targets, Incident creation Rule for target down.; Owner = ).

 or

Message=The database status is UNKNOWN.
The database status is UNKNOWN.
Incident created by rule (Name = Incident management Ruleset for all targets, Incident creation Rule for metric alerts.; Owner =).

 or

Failed to connect to database instance: No more data to read from socket.

 or

Failed to connect to database instance: Protocol violation.

 
The <Agent ORACLE_BASE>/agent_inst/sysman/gcagent.log will show:
