Symptoms

Applying a patch using opatchauto fails with the error:

Applying interim patch '18090046' to OH '/u01/app/oracle/em/em12103/oms'
ApplySession failed but Oracle Home has not been modified.null
UtilSession failed: ApplySession failed but Oracle Home has not been modified.null
Log file location: /u01/app/oracle/em/em12103/oms/cfgtoollogs/opatch/opatch2014-05-09_08-46-28AM_1.log

OPatch failed with error code 73

 The example above shows application of patch 18090046 to EM 12.1.0.3, but a similar effect is observed on later versions of EM Cloud Control.
