12c DB Cloning Log in to ASM Instance with SYSASM role fails

The Database Cloning feature in Cloud Control fails at ASM login screen with the following when logging in with SYSASM role:

Examine and correct the following error(s), then retry the operation.

ASM Instance - The specified ASM user "sys" is not in the SYSDBA role. Please specify ASM instance credentials for a user who is in the SYSDBA role.
