Goal

Background:

*Revised August 2017 to include EM 13c procedures

Enterprise Manager (EM)  uses the Reporting Functionality of Oracle Business Intelligence Publisher (BIP), a component of the larger Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE) Suite. However, since the EM installation contains ONLY a sub-set of the OBIEE Suite, you CANNOT follow the procedures in the OBIEE Bundle Patch README for patching the BIP that is included in your EM installation.

Beginning with Enterprise Manager 12.1.0.4, the Business Intelligence Publisher (BIP) Binaries are included with the EM installation as a stand-alone produce, integrated into the Enterprise Manager's EMGC_GCDomain.

Enterprise Manager versions prior to 12.1.0.4 do not include the BIP Binaries, but procedures are available integrate BI Publisher via a "Software-Only" installation Method (See <Note 1392921.1>).

The purpose of this document is to provide instructions on how to apply BIP Bundle Patches to a BI Publisher HOME that is shipped with EM 12c.

The current releases of the OBIEE Update Patches are found in the following document:

   - <Note 1276869.1> : Overview of Available Update Patches for Oracle BI Publisher Enterprise 11g

OVERVIEW of the patching process:

The patching process for EM 12c is slightly different than for EM 13c.  One key element is that EM 12c requires an Overlay Patch (<Patch 17888172>) to be applied on-top of the BI Publisher Patch.  The Overlay Patch is no longer required in EM 13c.

The general steps are as follows:

  1.     Download the BI Update Patches for OBIEE (see <Note 1276869.1> for latest releases)
  2.     Download the Overlay Patch 17888172 (EM 12c ONLY)
  3.     Extract (unzip) the BI Publisher Patch
  4.     Setting Environment Variables
  5.     Stop the OMS
  6.     Rolling back the Overlay Patch 17888172 (EM 12c ONLY)
  7.     Applying the BIP Patch
  8.     Apply the NEW Overlay Patch 17888172 (EM 12c ONLY)
  9.     Start the OMS

Further details about the Overlay Patch are included in the following defect:

    - <Bug 17888172> - ORACLE BI PUBLISHER PATCH BUG FOR PRIVATE EMCC PS3 MANDATORY INSTALL PATCH

Important Notes:

NOTE: The README provided with the OBIEE Suite Bundle Patch do not consider an EM-Integrated BIP Installation and CANNOT be followed when patching the BI Publisher that ships with Enterprise Manager.

NOTE: ONLY APPLY the BIP Patch extracted from the main OBIEE Patch Update to the EM-Integrated BI Publisher. DO NOT apply any other components of the OBIEE Suite Bundle Patch to your EM-Integrated BI Publisher installation.

NOTE: The BI Publisher used for Enterprise Manager requires another MANDATORY (Overlay) PATCH (Patch 17888172) for EM compatibility, and is included with the BIP distributed along with EM. This patch needs to be applied along with the BIP Patch.

NOTE: Enterprise Manager 12c uses BI Publisher Version 11.1.1.7.x

NOTE: Enterprise Manager 13c uses BI Publisher Version 12.1.3.0.0 which is a special release of BIP 11.1.1.9.x.  Despite the fact that the UI and OPatch inventory for EM 13c displays BI Publisher Version 12.1.3, the 12.1.3 version is a special release based on the 11.1.1.9.x code base.  This is why you need to apply the 11.1.1.9.x version patches to your EM 13c Installation.

NOTE: Regarding Versions and Release Dates, Beginning with the October 2013 BIP Patch Update, Patch is identified with a .YYMMDD identifier appended to the Patch Number.  For example, the BI BUNDLE PATCH 11.1.1.9.170718 is the Bundle Patch for 11.1.1.9, release on July-18-2017.
