EM 12c: How to Patch the EM-Integrated Oracle BI Publisher (Doc ID 1982656.1)

Last updated on JUNE 23, 2017

Applies to:

Enterprise Manager Base Platform - Version to [Release 12.1]
Enterprise Manager for Fusion Middleware - Version and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Beginning with Enterprise Manager (EM), the Business Intelligence Publisher (BIP) Binaries are provide with EM as a stand-alone installation of the BIP component of the larger Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE) Suite. Because the BI Publisher (BIP) that ships with Enterprise Manager (EM) contains ONLY a sub-set of the OBIEE Suite, you CANNOT follow the procedures in the OBIEE Bundle Patch for patching the BIP that is included in your EM installation.

The purpose of this document is to provide instructions on how to apply BIP Bundle Patches and Merge Request (interim) Patches to a BI Publisher HOME that is shipped with EM 12c.

Currently available OBIEE Suite Patch Bundles
Release Date OBIEE Suite Bundle Patch Applicable BIP Patch (Extract from OBIEE Bundle Patch)
January 20, 2015 (<Patch 20124371>) Patch 19822893
January 19, 2016 (<Patch 22225110>) Patch 22225969
July 19, 2016 (<Patch 23703041>) Patch 23299563

NOTE: ONLY APPLY the BIP Patch listed in the third column above to the EM-Integrated BI Publisher. DO NOT apply any other components of the OBIEE Suite Bundle Patch to your EM-Integrated BI Publisher installation.

NOTE: The README files provided with the OBIEE Suite Bundle Patch do not consider an EM-Integrated BIP Installation and CANNOT be followed when patching the BI Publisher that ships with Enterprise Manager.

NOTE: The BI Publisher used for Enterprise Manager requires another MANDATORY (Overlay) PATCH (<Patch 17888172>) for EM compatibility, and is included with the BIP distributed along with EM. This patch needs to be applied along with the BIP Patch.

NOTE: Please bookmark this document. Procedures for EM 13c will be coming soon...

Further details about the Overlay Patch are included in the following defect:

OVERVIEW of the patching process:
  1. Downloading the BI Bundle Patch and extracting (unzipping) the BI Publisher Patch
  2. Setting Environment Variables to point to the MW_HOME (the OMS) and the ORACLE_HOME to be patched (Oracle_BI1)
  3. Stop the OMS
  4. Rolling back the Overlay Patch 17888172
  5. Applying the BIP Patch
  6. Apply the NEW Overlay Patch 17888172
  7. Start the OMS
