EM 12C: Deleting a target from a Non-default Pool (SUN ZFS storage) Causes Error: Target deletion failed. One or multiple target volumes could not be deleted. (Doc ID 1997299.1)

Last updated on AUGUST 19, 2022

Applies to:

Enterprise Manager for Storage Management - Version 12.1.0.5.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Enterprise Manager 12.1.0.4 with the Storage Management Framework 12.1.0.5 Plug-in deployed and the SMF Plug-in Bundle Patch 12.1.0.5.1 (20477849) applied (through the February 2015 EM Bundle Patch 20477849) is configured for the Self Service Portal (SSA).

The following error message is received at the computational step during a request to delete a database:

Got Scalar Variable Value: smf_target_id = 12
Target deletion failed. One or multiple target volumes may not have been deleted.
Error Message: Target deletion failed. One or multiple target volumes could not be deleted.
SMF Computational Step failed with error message: Target deletion failed. One or multiple target volumes could not be deleted.;
Cause:oracle.sysman.emSDK.core.job.procedure.exception.ProcedureException: Target deletion failed. One or multiple target volumes could not be deleted.

Also, the following messages are logged in the .../gc_inst/sysman/log/emoms.trc1 file:

2015-03-04 13:37:39,423 [RJob Step 53509] DEBUG em.paf_jobs
failWithOutput.402 - ExpressionEvaluationException: Below error message was returned while executing this Computational step.

SMF Computional Step failed with error message: Target deletion failed. One or multiple target volumes could not be deleted.;
Caused By: Target deletion failed. One or multiple target volumes could not be deleted.

oracle.sysman.emSDK.core.job.procedure.exception.PAFException:
ExpressionEvaluationException: Below error message was returned while executing this Computational step.

SMF Computional Step failed with error message: Target deletion failed. One or multiple target volumes could not be deleted.;
Caused By: Target deletion failed. One or multiple target volumes could not be deleted.

Note that this problem deletion is from a non-default pool.

To reproduce:

1. create 2 pools in ZFS storage
2. create project and share(s) in the second, non-default pool (check: connect to ZFS SA and check which pool is used as the default, then use the next one)
3. use this share for a standby database
4. prepare service provisioning using SnapClone
5. provision the service
6. try to delete the newly provisioned service
