EM 12c : Enterprise Manager 12c Cloud Control Agent on AIX Fails to Stop and a Status Shows: Status agent Failure:Unable to connect to the agent...[Connection establishment timed out] (Doc ID 2083157.1)

Symptoms

Agent on AIX is failing to stop. Checking the agent's status shows the following error message:

$ ./emctl status agent

---------------------------------------------------------------
Status agent Failure:Unable to connect to the agent at https://testhost.oracle.com:3872/emd/lifecycle/main/ [Connection establishment timed out]

 

Killing the agent process using 'kill -9' option puts the process in 'exiting' state and thereby blocks the agent's listen port.   

# ps -ef | grep "em/agent" | grep -v grep

# netstat -an | grep 3872 | grep LISTEN
tcp 0 0 *.3872 *.* LISTEN

# ps -ef | grep exiting
- 356550 - - - <exiting>

Here, 356550 is the process Id that was associated with the killed agent process.
