Goal

To upgrade the JDK in the Oracle Home of the 11.2.0.4 database for use with Enterprise Manager (EM) Database Control, which shares this home.  Please note, that only the minor java version change is described here.

For example, by default the 11.2.0.4 EM Database Control ships with java 1.5.0_51.  The goal of this document is to upgrade the minor java version to 1.5.0_85.

Upgrading the JDK to the minor java version is a requirement when following this reference:

<Note:1946195.1> CVE-2014-3566 Instructions to Mitigate the SSL v3.0 Vulnerability (aka "Poodle Attack") in Oracle Database Control

This solution is not recommended except for test or emergency use, since the JDK 1.5 is no longer supported and does not include the latest security updates available in higher versions.

For a major JDK upgrade (recommended) for all platforms, see the following note:

<Note 2413987.1> How to update the JDK to JDK7U141 for Enterprise Manager Database Control in the 11.2 Database Oracle Home

The solution in this document does not apply to the 11.1.0.7 version of the database, nor does it apply to the 12c versions, where EM Database Control is no longer included.
This procedure also does not apply to the JDK associated with the IBM AIX platform.
