OEM Data Guard Enabling Real Time Query, Only One RAC Instance Starts Up In Read Only Mode (Doc ID 2163048.1)

Last updated on AUGUST 09, 2016

Applies to:

Enterprise Manager for Oracle Database - Version 12.1.0.2.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

This issue reproduces in 13.1.0.0.0 and 12.1.0.5 OEM Cloud Control.

In a standby cluster database, after "Enable Real-time Query" through OEM, only one instance is restarted in "READ ONLY WITH APPLY" mode. All other instances remain in MOUNTED mode.

Querying gv$datbase, returns the following:

SQL> select db_unique_name, inst_id, open_mode, database_role from gv$database;

DB_UNIQUE_NAME INST_ID OPEN_MODE DATABASE_ROLE
------------------------------ ---------- ------------------------------------
sihem 1 MOUNTED PHYSICAL STANDBY
sihem 2 READ ONLY WITH APPLY PHYSICAL STANDBY

The same operation to enable real-time query using srvctl (outside of OEM), all instances are opened with the correct open_mode, as demonstrated below:

$ srvctl start database -d sihem -o "read only"

SQL> select db_unique_name, open_mode, database_role from gv$database;

DB_UNIQUE_NAME OPEN_MODE DATABASE_ROLE
------------------------------ -------------------- ----------------
sihem READ ONLY WITH APPLY PHYSICAL STANDBY
sihem READ ONLY WITH APPLY PHYSICAL STANDBY

We expect all the cluster database instances to be opened in READ ONLY WITH APPLY when enabling Enable Real-time Query through OEM.
