EM 12c: Out-of-place Patchting (DLM) from Enterprise Manager 12c Cloud Control Fails on Additional Instances from a Database Oracle Home (Doc ID 2180372.1)

Last updated on SEPTEMBER 12, 2016

Applies to:

Enterprise Manager Base Platform - Version 12.1.0.5.0 to 13.1.1.0.0 [Release 12.1 to 13.1]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Applying a patch from Enterprise Manager (EM) 12c Cloud Control on database Oracle Home with multiple instances in batches fails on additional deployments.
For example, ten database instances are sourced from one database Oracle Home on the server and four of them are patched successfully (using DLM) with out of place patching. Patching the remaining six databases with a later deployment generates an error about the Oracle Home note being empty. Of course it is not empty because the first patching operation formed the new Oracle Home.

The patch deployment job output error stack shows the following:

Fri Aug 5 11:02:02 2016 - runTargetPrereq::check_new_oh_location - /sft/oracle/app/oracle/product/12.1/db12c_2 is not empty
PREREQ_STATUS: FAILED
PREREQ_MESG: The new Oracle home location /sft/oracle/app/oracle/product/12.1/db12c_2 is not empty.
PREREQ_REMEDY: MANUAL
PREREQ_REMEDY_DETAILS: Specify a location that is an empty directory and has write permissions.
