EM 13c: How to Avoid False Agent Unreachable Alerts When OMS Servers Are Restarted as Part Of Maintenance (Doc ID 2407109.1)

Last updated on JUNE 01, 2023

Applies to:

Enterprise Manager Base Platform - Version 13.1.0.0.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

As part of Maintenance, when OMS Servers are restarted, its observed that several agent unreachable alerts are generated especially in large setups.

As soon as the OMS process is starting, all the agents start pinging OMS. But as all the subsystems are not initialized yet, its not possible for OMS to register these pings into the repository.

This can cause OMS to think that the health of the agent is unreachable.

To avoid these false alerts in large environments, it is recommended to set PING_START_GRACE_TIME parameter. OMS will wait to perform Agent heartbeat status check until the grace time has been met before declaring agents as unreachable.
