EM 13c: How To Patch Linux Machines Using a Patched Host As Reference or Gold Image (Doc ID 2861774.1)

Enterprise Manager Base Platform - Version and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

At times there are requirements to keep all Linux machines patched to current levels or exact same patch/packages levels. Enterprise Manager provides an option 'Linux Patching Group' to patch servers in bulk.

But when patching has to be done on test servers first, to verify everything works fine, by the time all testing is done and production servers are ready to be patched, actual packages inside the package repositories may have been updated. This means that Production servers will actually be patched with newer versions of all package.

This causes an issue. Some option is required to keep all servers at exactly the same level until all patching is completed, like creating a gold image from a reference host and using same image without having to depending on new updates in package repositories.
