Grid Control Gets Metric Collection Error On ASM Database - Status Unknown / Unavailable (Doc ID 291763.1)

Symptoms

The status of the ASM instance in the Grid Control console shows up as "Unavailable".
The ASM home page shows a Metric Collection Error.

The DBSNMP is using the default password and can connect using SQLPLUS to the +ASM instance.

The Central Agent monitoring the ASM instance records the error message below in the log file $ORACLE_HOME/sysman/log emagent.trc:
