Details

Enterprise Manager (EM) now releases 2 types of patches for the EM installation:

  1. Release Updates, RU, (formerly PSU, Patch Set Update, for the OMS and Bundle Patch for the agent/Plugins)
  2. One-off Patches

The Monthly Release Updates are released per EM Patchset (ex. 13.5.0.1, 13.4.0.1) for the OMS, Management Agent and the Plug-ins.  On a quarterly basis (Jan, Apr, Jul, Oct) the most recent Release Updates are marked as Oracle Recommended Patches. All the patches released through the Release Update program are cumulative from the first Patchset Release.  At a minimum, you should install these patches each quarter if you are unable to install them monthly.  The Plugin Release Updates are released as multiple patches: 1) A single System Patch for the OMS side plugin component.  The System patch includes all the OMS Side patches for every plugin that has released a patch for a given Patchset release and 2) Agent Side patches (monitoring and discovery) that are installed in the Agent directory on the remote host that's monitoring the plugin. For many of our plugins, you will have a System Patch (the oms side patch) as well as an Agent Monitoring patch and possibly an Agent Discovery patch to install on your monitoring hosts.

For all versions, all OMS side patches for the OMS and Plug-ins are bundled in the OMS RU. The Agent patch and the Agent side Plug-in patches are release separately in version 13.4 and lower. Beginning with version 13.5, all Agent and Agent side Plug-in patches are being bundled in a single patch release, similar to the way it has been done with the OMS.

In some cases, Oracle releases one-off patches for the EM components based on business justification.  These patches are then incorporated into the Release Update and you will need to resolve possible patch conflicts if you have installed a one-off patch.

Complete Release Update and PSU patch details are available in the following primary patch notes, available by EM version:

13.4.0 Enterprise Manager Cloud Control Base Platform Release Update (RU) 15

Note the important following information for RU14 patch application:

1) If EM 13.4 OMS Opatch version is not 13.9.4.2.5 or later, then Opatch must be upgraded to 13.9.4.2.6 before applying RU15.
No older version of Opatch (13.9.4.2.2 or 13.9.4.2.4) can be used for patching the EM 13.4 OMS with RU15.

2) It is mandatory to apply the OMS RU12 or later immediately after Opatch upgrade to 13.9.4.2.6.
If RU12 or later application is not planned, do not upgrade Opatch as this new Opatch will break EM functionality without the corrections included in RU12 or later.

3) Opatch 13.9.4.2.6 is intended only for the OMS Opatch located in the OMS (Middleware) Oracle Home.
Do not upgrade the Opatch on the EM 13.4 Agents.
RU12 patches on agents will work with the default Opatch version, 13.9.4.2.2.

4) Users will not be able to stage Opatch 13.9.4.2.6 in Software library.
This is intended behavior.

5) Opatch 13.9.4.2.6 is released in Patch 28186730.

6) EM users must upgrade OPatch to 13.9.4.2.6 before the July (2021) Middleware CPU can be applied to the OMS Middleware Home.

7) OMSPatcher must be updated to version 13.9.4.6.0 (Patch 19999993) prior to applying Release Update 15 for the EM 13.4 OMS.

Note:
If you are not sure about the OMSPatcher version you have, you should download the latest versions.
To download, follow the instructions outlined in the My Oracle Support <Note 2646080.1>.

For an introduction to Recommended Patches, see <Note 756388.1>: - Introduction to Oracle Recommended Patches

Also you have separate components(WLS ,BIP and JDK) integrated with OEM that should be also considered for patching . You can go-through the reference section for patching

For information on Patchset Error Correction time frames, please see <Note 209768.1>:- Database, FMW, Enterprise Manager, TimesTen In-Memory Database, and OCS Software Error Correction Support Policy

For additional information about Patch Set Updates, see <Note 854428.1>: - Patch Set Updates for Oracle Products and <Note 1942215.1>: - Patch Set Update and Critical Patch Update January 2015 Availability Document

Best Practices

Oracle strongly recommends to consume the latest OPatch version when applying recommended patches. This is also documented in the patches readme's. The latest OPatch version can be downloaded under <Patch 6880880> for each platform and main release.

For 10.2.0.x Agents and OMS, pickup the OPatch version 10.2.x
For 11.1 Agents and OMS, pickup the OPatch version 11.1.x
For 12.1 OMS, pickup the OPatch version 11.1.x

Conflict Resolution

If you encounter a patch conflict while installing the Recommended Patches, you need to file a Service Request (SR) with Oracle Global Support to request a merge patch.
Patch conflict resolution is provided using the same mechanism as the database Critical Patch Updates. For more information, see My Oracle Support <Note 438314.1>, Critical Patch Update - Introduction to Database n-Apply CPU Patches.

On Request

To obtain Recommended Patches for a platform not in the patch availability list, file a Service Request (SR) with Oracle Global Support. A request may be made at any time. Either the current Recommended Patches or the next Recommended patches for a given target configuration will be provided depending on when the request is received and processed.

Important Points

1) For Known Issues with any of the Recommended Patches, please click on the Document link in the tables above against the relevant version and target configuration.

2) Beginning with EM 12.1.0.3 through EM 13.3, monthly bundles replaced the quarterly PSU patches for the EM Agents and Plug-ins.  Beginning with EM 13.4, the OMS, Agent and Plug-in PSU's, system and bundle patches are released as a monthly Release Update.

3) See the EM PSU discussions in the EM MOS Communities.  To join in the conversation or learn from others' experience, join the My Oracle Support Communities EM discussions.
