Click on Hostname in OracleAS 10g AS Console Returns Error "Cannot get host name from EMD"

Symptoms
In OracleAS AS Console when clicking on the hostname hyperlink the browser shows a URL like
http://hostname.domain:1811/emd/console/host/sitemap
and the error
Error
Cannot get host name from EMD.
