When attempting to connect with Discoverer 10g Administrator or Desktop (10.1.2.2 or 10.1.2.3), using the credentials of a Windows Operating System (OS) user that does not have Administrator or a 'Power User' role, the following message is encountered:
"ORA-12640 Authentication adapter initialization failed".
- If the AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES is changed from NTS to NONE in <oracle_home>\network\admin\sqlnet.ora, then the Discoverer connection will connect regardless of the OS user privileges.
- If the OS user has the Administrator or Power User role granted, then the connection is successful regardless of the AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES value.
- SQL*Plus is able to connect with NTS authentication.
- Discoverer 10.1.2.0.2 was able to connect regardless of the OS user's rights and sqlnet.ora AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES value.
The issue started to occur after applying the 10.1.2.2 or 10.1.2.3 patchset.
