Symptoms

You have installed OBIEE onto Linux and are using more than one NIC card.  When you log into OBIEE Answers or Dashboard, the following error occurs:
"Error connecting to the Oracle BI Server: Could not connect to the Oracle BI Server because it is not running or is inaccessible. Please contact your system administrator."

The more detailed error message is:

Error Codes: WH4KCFW6:OPR4ONWY:U9IM8TAC
Odbc driver returned an error (SQLDriverConnectW).
State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 12008] Unable to connect to port 9703 on machine LOCALHOST. [nQSError: 12010] Communication error connecting to remote end point: address = LOCALHOST; port = 9703. [nQSError: 12002] Socket communication error at call=: (Number=-1) Unknown error 4294967295 (HY000)

The following error is written to the NQServer.log file:

[nQSError: 12002] Socket communication error at call=send: (Number=9) Bad file descriptor


Once the services are re-started everything seems to work fine.
