The Source System Container Drop-down List is Empty during a DAC Upgrade via the Refresh Base Option (Doc ID 1300424.1)

Last updated on SEPTEMBER 05, 2019

Applies to:

Siebel Data Warehouse Application Console - Version and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

On: Oracle BI Applications
With source system: Oracle eBusiness Suite R12.1.1

Oracle BI Applications is being upgraded to Oracle BI Applications; the Source System and Version will remain unchanged (that is, the Oracle eBusiness Suite R12.1.1 is not being upgraded).

In the Oracle BI Applications environment, the DAC repository has a custom container with user-specific customizations (that is, the "custom" container was created from / as a copy of the "original" source system container that was provided with Oracle BI Applications, and was then customized).

As per the Oracle Business Intelligence Data Warehouse Administration Console User’s Guide:

10.2 Overview of Upgrade and Merge Options

Refresh Base:
Use this option to upgrade the DAC Repository when you are upgrading from an older release of Oracle BI Applications to a new release

10.4 About the Refresh Base Option

The Refresh Base option enables you to upgrade an existing customized DAC Repository.

10.4.1 Refresh Base: High-Level Process Flow

The term "base" is used to refer to a source or target container that you have not changed or customized in any way.

In Step 1 of the high-level process flow, you import the repository data for the new base container from the file system into the repository temporary tables. This repository is referred to as the "source" in the Upgrade/Merge Wizard.

In Step 2, you create a Difference Report that compares the new base container with the existing repository (including customizations). The existing customized repository is referred to as the "target".

In Step 3, you accept or reject the objects that the Difference Report shows as being present or changed in the source but not the target.

In Step 4, after you have resolved the differences, you then execute the merge.

In Step 5, the DAC references the customizations in the newly merged repository with the new base container.

So a DAC repository was created / restored with the custom container  / customizations and is being upgraded via the Refresh Base option, as per the DAC User's Guide > 10.4.2 Refresh Base: Procedure for Upgrading:

To upgrade an existing repository using the Refresh Base option

1. Navigate to the Upgrade/Merge Wizard by selecting Tools, then DAC Repository Management, and then Upgrade/Merge Wizard.

2. From the drop-down list, select Refresh Base, and then click OK. The Import Source System Container dialog box appears.

3. Click Change import/export folder to navigate to the directory that holds the metadata files for the new base container to which you are upgrading.

4. Select the container to which you are upgrading from the Source System Container drop-down list, and click OK.

... etc.

However, the Refresh Base upgrade could not be completed as the Source System Container drop-down list was "empty" in Step #4 ... that is, no containers were listed for selection.
