Ad-hoc Retrieval on Smart Slice Returns Error "Invalid free form; need at least one row and one column dimension. (Doc ID 1338876.1)

When using a Smart Slice connect to Application/Database and perform an ad-hoc retrieval.  Retype any of the members in the grid using different case, and then selecting
refresh will return error "Invalid free form; need at least one row and one
column dimension.

For example: If Measures is returned in the grid, retype with measures and the error will appear.  If
you retype with a capital M for Measures the refresh will be successful.

The outline in Essbase is not set to be case sensitive. If you perform a regular ad-hoc retrieval outside of the Smart Slice, measures or Measures is accepted for the refresh.
