Financial Reports Error: "The Database Connection could not be found" When Running Financial Reporting Reports Against Essbase (Doc ID 1348199.1)

Symptoms

When you run a Financial Reporting report which uses an Essbase data source, the report fails with the error:

The Database Connection could not be found:  __DTS__<UUID of datasource>

Only reports using substitution variables are affected. The FRLogging.log file (under Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\domains\servers\FinancialReporting0\logs) shows error similar to:

Essbase Error(1051083): Substitution variable CurYr does not exist[[com.essbase.api.base.EssException: Cannot get variable. Essbase Error(1051083): Substitution variable CurYr does not exist.

Changes

Any of the possible scenarios:

• The reports were migrated into an environment where the relevant substitution variables have not yet been defined.
• The report or the substitution variables have been edited in such a way that they are no longer compatible.
• If an Essbase cluster has been deleted and re-added, this can cause substitution variables to become undefined.
