OBIEE 11g The Presentation Server Will Not Start When Using The Tag HardenXSS Element In The Instanceconfig.xml File To Display HTML Code Used In The Column Header Of The Report For Mouse Over Help Text (Doc ID 1473323.1)

Symptoms

After adding the following tags in the instanceconfig.xml file between the tags:

<!--HardenXSS is not managed by Enterprise manager-->
<HardenXSS>false</HardenXSS>


and restarting the BI Server and Presentation Server, the Presentation Server will not start.

41.11.2.1 Removal of DefaultImageType and HardenXSS Elements

In Release 11.1.1.5, the following elements are no longer supported and should be removed from the instanceconfig.xml file:

- DefaultImageType element
- HardenXSS element

If the instanceconfig.xml file includes the HardenXSS element when a user starts Oracle BI EE, then an error message is displayed. The error log file will state that startup was affected by the inclusion of the HardenXSS element.

The workaround is to remove the HardenXSS element from the instanceconfig.xml file.
