Many customers that are familiar with the Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE) 10g version attempt to mimic the same architecture in OBIEE 11g. The OBIEE 11g architecture is designed differently from 10g; therefore, there is not always a one-to-one comparison in the architecture and how the installations and configurations are performed. You can find a number of suggested workarounds and solutions searching the Internet; but many of these are not supported by Oracle. Oracle Support Service Requests should not be opened on un-supported environments.
1.2.2 Step 2: Understand What is Upgraded and How it is Upgraded
"An efficient upgrade strategy does not try to exactly replicate the appearance and behavior of the original 10g system in the upgraded system. Such replication is time-consuming and in some cases extremely difficult (if not impossible). For example, existing dashboards and prompts will be rendered differently in 11g and would require significant manual intervention to re-create the 10g appearance. Attempting to exactly replicate 10g appearance and behavior also undermines the rationale for upgrading in the first place; namely, to take advantage of enhancements that have been introduced into 11g."
This also applies to architecture.
This document intends to clarify and document supported configurations for achieving multiple presentation servers with a single BI Server.
