EAL Performance Issue When Using Cross Dimension Variance by Year or Using the @PRIOR function

When a dynamic Essbase Variance is created e.g. "Actual" - "Budget" EAL performs the calculation efficiently. When a cross dimension Variance by Year is used e.g. "Actual" - "Budget"->"2011" or even using the @PRIOR function, the query is not performed efficiently.
The prior year query generates significantly more individual queries. No more than one dimension member is submitted concurrently meaning performance is impacted significantly
This problem is not in EAL, the problem is in Essbase. Performance is impacted when using dynamic formulas where two and more dimensions are involved.
