This document intends to describe a method to configure the TNS/OCI alias from RPD development to deployment on a Unix or Linux server where OBIEE 11g is installed to avoid common ORA-01017 'invalid username/password; logon denied' errors from mis-configuration when connecting to an Oracle database.
Typically, ORA-01017 errors can be misleading or difficult to troubleshoot because of the potential points of mis-configuration and the error message could be misleading. This document is intended for OBIEE Administrators and basic understanding of connections is assumed. This only covers connections to the Oracle database via OCI / TNS, no other databases or connectivity is covered (i.e. - odbc, jdbc) as OCI is the preferred connectivity to an Oracle database
