OBIEE 11g: Reports do not Display and Interactions do not Work in Dashboards Displayed in Internet Explorer 8 and 9 (Doc ID 1579882.1)

Symptoms

You are using OBIEE 11.1.1.7.x on Internet Explorer 8 and 9.  But when you select a value from the dashboard prompt and click Apply, the report will start to execute, but you see the "Searching ... to cancel, click here" message indefinitely, and the resultset never returns.  You might also see the following errors in the status bar or in the debugger:

Another example is, if you click for a second time on the Next 25 rows link in a report (to display rows 51-75), you see the working icon display indefinitely, and the resultset never returns. 

These problems do not occur when using Firefox or Chrome as the browser.
