OBIEE 11g: Custom Numeric Format M for Millions is not Exported to Excel (Doc ID 1593095.1)

Last updated on FEBRUARY 08, 2017

Applies to:

Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition - Version 11.1.1.7.0 and later
Business Intelligence Server Enterprise Edition - Version 11.1.1.7.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

If you use the following custom format in a numeric column

#,#.0,,M

then the value 2500000 has the expected format 2.5M. When you export the Analytics results to Excel 2007 then the custom format is not retained.

In stand-alone Excel, the format required is:

#,#.0,,”M”

to display 2.5M for the numeric value 2500000. But this custom format with M in quotes in OBIEE gives a parser exception error when exported to Excel.
However, the format

#,#.0,,
does export fine, with the value 2.5 displayed in Excel.

In comparison the OBIEE custom format
#,#.0,K
is exported correctly to Excel 2007, where this format is valid.
