OBIEE 11g: Error: "Login failed." You cannot Open a Repository in Online Mode, But You can Open it in Offline Mode (Doc ID 1607247.1)

When you open the repository in online mode, it fails with the following error message:

Login failed.

There are no traces of the issue in the BI Administration Tool log file. You also encounter the problem with the SampleApp repository deployed.

But you can open the repository in offline mode without problem.
