OBIEE 11g: Configuration Assistant Populates Fields with A Web Tier (OHS) Instance instead of the Expected OBIEE Instance (Doc ID 1610181.1)

Last updated on NOVEMBER 06, 2019

Applies to:

Business Intelligence Server Enterprise Edition - Version 11.1.1.6.5 and later
Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition - Version 11.1.1.6.5 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

You are upgrading OBIEE 11g 11.1.1.6.x to 11.1.1.7.x, following the documentation here: 1.7 Moving from 11.1.1.3, 11.1.1.5, or 11.1.1.6 to 11.1.1.7

Note: This problem may occur with any occasion to run the Configuration Assistant when OHS is installed in the same tier, not only when upgrading (e.g. - scale out, scale-out).

Note:  This is a workaround for non-production environments.   The supported architecture / topology for environments is to have the "web tier" / HTT Server tier on separate machines as documented in the Enterprise Deployment Guide (Section 2.1.1, "Reference Topologies Documented in the Guide" ) and the System Administration Guide ( 6.1 About Oracle Business Intelligence Components in a Clustered Environment ).

When running the Configuration Assistance, the fields for the ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_INSTANCE are populating with the Oracle Web Tier (Oracle HTTP Server - OHS) paths and not the OBIEE Oracle home and instance paths.

For Example:

Changes

The Oracle HTTP Server was installed on the same server as OBIEE and registered with the domain.
