Last updated on MARCH 08, 2017

Applies to:

Business Intelligence Applications Consumer - Version 11.1.1.8.1 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

customer has some issues while applying Patch Bundle 6 on a 2-Node cluster environment.
As part of installation, both the nodes were setup and clustered (BI and ODI in the Console)
The Patch bundle 6 has 8 Patches.
Some of the Patches have Apply and Sync Phase.
The “Apply” has no issues. However the issue is with “Sync” phase.
Do we need to apply “SyncPatch” in the 2nd Node too?
As such Admin Server is running on only one instance, the SyncPatch needs to connect to the same Admin server instance. (server1:7001)
See the command below for example (SyncPatch for 19897777):

/opt/oracle/Middleware/Oracle_BI1/jdk/bin/java -cp "/opt/oracle/Middleware/Oracle_BI1/biapps/patch/biappspatch.jar" oracle.as.biapps.patch.orchestrate.OrchestrateBIAppsMetadataPatching bi.oracle.home=/opt/oracle/Middleware/Oracle_BI1 Standard.Metadata.Patching.Command=SynchPatch patch.location=/software/oracle/OBIEE/11.1.1.8.x/FMW_OBIEE_PATCHES/PATCH_TOP/20246197/p19663484_111181_Generic.zip bi.admin.url=http://server1:7001 bi.admin.username=weblogic bi.admin.password=xyz work.dir=/home/oracle/temp

The two Nodes in their installation: server1 and server2
However, the bi.admin.url is the same, as the Adminserver is runs on one instance (as per the cluster configuration).
Running, the “SyncPatch” on the 2nd Node is throwing errors like below:
oracle.as.biapps.patch.orchestrate.exp.OrchestrationException: Failed to download RPD to file: /home/oracle/temp/.biapps_patch_storage/orchestration-synchpatch/02262015_111546/OracleBIApps.rpd
