OBIEE 11g: Installation via the Configuration Assistant Hangs at the Creating Domain Step (Doc ID 2011488.1)

Last updated on MAY 28, 2015

Applies to:

Business Intelligence Server Enterprise Edition - Version and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

OBIEE is being installed on Oracle Enterprise Linux 6 (64-bit) with JDK7 and WebLogic Server 10.3.6

Upon completion of the Software Only installation of OBIEE, the Oracle Business Intelligence Configuration Assistant was launched to configure a new enterprise installation of OBIEE; however, the installation / configuration hung at the "Creating Domain" step.

The install<timestamp>.out log file indicated that the Admin Server had been successfully created (and this was confirmed via the AdminServer.log file which showed the Admin Server started in RUNNING mode) and that the configuration hung at the "Starting NodeManager" step.

The <MW_HOME>/wlserver_10.3/common/nodemanager/nodemanager.log file showed the following error:-

<SEVERE> <Fatal error in node manager server>
weblogic.nodemanager.common.ConfigException: Native version is enabled but nodemanager native library could not be loaded
at weblogic.nodemanager.server.NMServerConfig.initProcessControl(
Caused by: java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: /opt/app/bidw/Middleware/wlserver_10.3/server/native/linux/x86_64/ /opt/app/bidw/Middleware/wlserver_10.3/server/native/linux/x86_64/ wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64 (Possible cause: architecture word width mismatch)
at java.lang.ClassLoader$NativeLibrary.load(Native Method)

The <MW_HOME>/wlserver_10.3/server/bin/ file was modified to include the -d64 parameter, for example:-

       From: "${JAVA_HOME}/bin/java" ${JAVA_VM} ...
       To: "${JAVA_HOME}/bin/java" -d64 ${JAVA_VM} ...

However, the following error was thrown upon invoking the script:-

/usr/java/jdk1.7.0_60/bin/java -d64 -client -Xms32m -Xmx200m -XX:MaxPermSize=128m -Dcoherence.home=/opt/app/bidw/Middleware/coherence_3.7 -Dbea.home=/opt/app/bidw/Middleware -Xverify:none -Dweblogic.nodemanager.javaHome=/usr/java/jdk1.7.0_60 weblogic.NodeManager -v
Error: This Java instance does not support a 64-bit JVM.
Please install the desired version.

The same error was thrown with the following:-
         $ /usr/java/jdk1.7.0_60/bin/java -version -d64
