OBIEE 11g: A NULL Presentation Variable Shows as *)NQGTN(* When Referenced in a Column Formula (Doc ID 2091472.1)

Last updated on MAY 03, 2021

Applies to:

Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition - Version 11.1.1.7.0 to 11.1.1.7.161018 [Release 11g]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

On OBIEE 11.1.1.7.x

A Dashboard Prompt sets a Presentation Variable (for example, p_state), the Presentation Variable is then referenced in a Column Formula (for example, Column Formula: '@{p_state}'), and the Column is then referenced in a Narrative View (for example, Narrative: @2).

The Narrative View should reflect the value of the Presentation Variable (via the reference to the Column).

However, when the Presentation Variable is set to NULL (via the Dashboard Prompt), the value is shown as "*)nqgtn(*" in both the Column and the Narrative view.

Note: This issue is not encountered if the Narrative View references the Presentation Variable directly (instead of  referencing the column), in which case the value will be shown as "NULL".
