OBIEE 11g/12c : Report Displays "No Results" When Base Member of a Shared Member is from Different Hierarchy in Essbase Data Source
(Doc ID 2185915.1)

Applies to:
Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition - Version 11.1.1.7.0 and laterInformation in this document applies to any platform.
Symptoms
On Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE) , 11.1.1.7 and later releases
In a multiple hierarchy dimension there can be a shared member in one Essbase hierarchy and base member in another Essbase hierarchy. BI Server does not know how to handle this. When generating MDX queries, BI Server automatically adds a filter to remove shared members in many situations. But when the base member belongs to a different hierarchy the query returns no result.
To avoid this filter, recommendation is to use the variable SupEssbaseShare. Expectation is, when variable SupEssbaseShare is set to 0 then BI Server should not generate the filter on shared member. However this may not be working.
Defining descriptor Id on the column may fix the issue partially, and there may still be reports whose queries do not return any result due to this filter.
Another recommendation is to modify the respective hierarchy properties in RPD Physical layer and uncheck the checkbox "Use unqualified member name for better performance”.
However, still the issue may persist whenever trying to use a shared member in the report's filter.
