OBIEE 11g: Adding a Column to an Existing Report Crashes OBIS or Throws the Error: The Current Operation was About to Overflow the Stack (Doc ID 2207670.1)

Last updated on MARCH 03, 2019

Applies to:

Business Intelligence Server Enterprise Edition - Version and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

A report (with 20+ columns) runs successfully and returns results.  But on adding just one more column to the report, it fails and throws the following error:-

View Display Error
Odbc driver returned an error (SQLExecDirectW).
Error Details
State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 43113] Message returned from OBIS. [nQSError: 43119] Query Failed: [nQSError: 46104] The current operation was about to overflow the stack. Please simplify or discontinue from the current operation. (HY000)

Before the column is added and the report runs successfully, it is observed (from the Session Log or the nqquery.log file) that this report generates a "large" Physical SQL query that accesses many tables.

After the column is added and the error is thrown, it is observed (from the Session Log or the nqquery.log file) that no Physical SQL query is generated.

With OBIEE on Linux, OBIS does not crash and the error is thrown onscreen.
With OBIEE on Windows, OBIS crashes and so the error is not thrown onscreen but it is observed in the nqserver.log file.
