This issue is reported in Big Data Discoverer 1.2.2 and higher.

When running the backup command, it fails with "exp not found" error.

Example
The backup command :
bdd-admin.sh backup -v -o <PATH1>/bdd_backup122.tar

Result :
[Error] <PATH2>/bin/exp not found. Please install Oracle database client (installation type: Administrator) on the admin server.
