Error When Launching Essbase Administration Services (EAS) Console via a Web Browser: "An Error Occurred While Launching/Running the Application"

Symptoms

When using Java 8 EAS web console and SSL is enabled, the login box does not get launched.  Error appears "An Error Occurred While Launching/Running the Application"

Selecting Details of the error returns the following information in the exception:
