Error Validating Formula That Uses the @MDSHIFT Function "operator -> is not allowed in this context" (Doc ID 2303151.1)

Symptoms

A formula that uses the @MDSHIFT function is no longer validating. It errors with:

operator -> is not allowed in this context

The formula is similar to:

@MDSHIFT("AnnualGNP"->"No_Src", "AnnualEarnings_MonthShift"->"No_BU"->"No_Product"->"ABC"->"DEF_Calc_Jan","Period",@RELATIVE("YearTotal",0) )

This error started occurring after applying the Essbase 11.1.2.4.018 Patch Set Update (PSU).  It validated in previous versions of Essbase.
