Last updated on APRIL 24, 2018

Applies to:

Business Intelligence Server Enterprise Edition - Version 12.2.1.1.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

In OBIEE 12c Analysis, you can format a subject area column by overriding the data format via Column Properties.
Edit Analysis> Criteria tab> Column Properties> Data Format tab Columns.

When "Save as the system-wide default for this data type," that will change the default data format for the certain data type.

When using the same subject area column in Visual Analyzer (VA), the default format may or may not be inherited from analysis.

For example,

  1. Not Inherited Case :
On fact column whose aggregation rule in repository is set to "Sum".

Change the default format of "Sample Sales Lite" subject area column - "Base Facts“."Revenue" by overriding Decimal Places:3.
It works fine on Analysis, but in Visual Analyzer, the data format of decimal places isn't inherited to Visual Analyzer from analysis.

2. Inherited Case :
On dimension column whose aggregation rule in repository is "None".

Changing the default format of "Sample Sales Lite" subject area column - "Products"."Product Number" in VA, override the default format to Decimal Places:3, and the data format of VA is inherited from analysis.
