Hyperion Planning: LCM Import Fails with Error Messages "EPMLCM-18000: Invalid application name - <appname> in MDF" , " Unable to register Application with Shared Services." and "Application group not found." (Doc ID 2416985.1)

Symptoms

Importing Hyperion Planning Application with LCM fails with the following error. The error is displayed in the Shared Services Migration Status. The actual application name is replaced with <application name>

The error in Shared Services Migration status is 
Source:  HP-HCE (File System)     Destination:  <application name> (Application) 
EPMLCM-18000: Invalid application name - <application name> in MDF.

The Planning_WebApp.log shows the following error
