EPM Custom Authentication Issues with J2SE clients & Troubleshooting (Doc ID 2537891.1)

Last updated on MARCH 28, 2024

Applies to:

Hyperion Essbase - Version to [Release 11.1]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Custom authentication logic is working for Thin clients, i.e. EPM Workspace, EAS Console, but Thick Clients, i.e. Smart View, Essbase Java API, it is bypassing the Custom Authentication module and directly trying to authenticate on the active directory where we have enabled the custom authentication.

Followed the instructions in the Oracle® Enterprise Performance Management System Security Configuration Guide, Using a Custom Authentication Module chapter to enable Custom Authentication module:

On the Shared Services server:

Restarted all the services.

When the Custom authentication fails from the Thick clients, the following error is observed in /Oracle/Middleware/user_projects/domains/EPMSystem/servers/FoundationServices0/logs/FoundationService0.log:

"An error has occurred. Unable to load custom authentication class."

Error when Custom Authentication fails from Essbase Studio:

[2019-01-30T14:42:46.886+00:00] [xxx] [TRACE:16] [] [com.hyperion.cp.server.css] .. ..] [SRC_CLASS: com.hyperion.cp.server.css.CssHandler] [SRC_METHOD: loginWithPassword] THROW[[EPMCSS-00301: Failed to authenticate user. Invalid credentials. Enter valid credentials.

CustomAuth.jar is implemented for CSS Custom Authentication after which the login is failing from Smart View, Analytic Provider Services (APS), Essbase.
