Hyperion Planning: Unknown Members Removed from Smart View Grid when Refreshing Planning Ad-Hoc Sheet in Smart View using Planning Smart View Provider Connection (Doc ID 2544856.1)

Last updated on FEBRUARY 29, 2024

Applies to:

Hyperion Planning - Version 11.1.2.3.000 and later
Hyperion Essbase - Version 11.1.2.3.000 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

When using Essbase Smart View Provider and when the Excel sheet contains a member cell within the grid and the member does not exist in the Essbase outline and the sheet is refreshed or submitted,  the following error of 'Input Grid contains unknown Members' comes up. When using a Planning Smart View connection with an Excel sheet that contains members that do not exist, the line(s) with the invalid members are removed when sheet is refreshed or data submitted

The above scenario happens with the following Smart View options

1. Open Smart View Options.
2. Go to "Member Options"
3. Un-check the option for "Preserve Formulas and comments in ad hoc operations (except pivot and undo)" and all options under it, for example, Formula Fill and Enable Enhanced comment handling.

With Essbase Provider when you run a refresh you get an error message "Input Grid Contains Unknown Members: <member names>"

With Planning Smart View connection these options using the above options unchecked,  the member rows are removed for invalid members

The above behavior is by design

However when using a saved Excel file for an Planning Ad-Hoc sheet and then if a member name is changed in Planning and changes refreshed to Essbase, then when Excel file is opened and do a refresh, the following message is displayed "The member xxx is not a valid member or you do not have access to it"
