Interoperability Issue with HFM Error: "Server Was Unable to Process Request. --> Access Is Denied"

Symptoms

Interoperability issue with HFM. HFM and MDM co-exist on a server.

Error: "Server was unable to process request. --> Access is denied" when you log in.

The full error (only visible if the web server is configured to return verbose messages) is:

System.Web.Service.Protocols.SoapException: Server was unable to process request. ---> System.UnauthorizedAccessException : Access is denied. Exception from HRESULT 0:x80070005(EACCESSDENIED))
