Symptoms

During the installation of Essbase and Shared Services there is a task to Externalize Users. The following steps are taken:

1. After starting the Essbase and Shared Services services, launch the Administration Services Console as the Admin user.
2. Click on Essbase Servers> Applications, see that Applications Exist.
3. Next right click on Security & select 'Externalize users'.
4. Add to the Essbase server the user Essadmin & provide a password.

An error is received advising that this has not been possible and that the user should check the Messages console.

When checking the message console the following error is seen:
1051549: Cannot convert Analytic Services to Shared Services mode when Analytic Services is not configured with Shared Services or the initialization process has failed. OK.

The following was checked and found to be set up correctly:

Path to jvm.dll in essbase.cfg is correct. For example:
JvmModuleLocation \\Hyperion\common\JRE\Sun\1.5.0\bin\client\jvm.dll

The essbase.cfg displays the following information.
SharedServicesLocation <server><port>
AuthenticationModule CSS http: //<server>:<port>/interop/framework/getCSSConfigFile
This indicates that Shared Services is registered properly.
