This document was created to assist customers on troubleshooting the different scenarios, causes and resolutions for issues involving Software Updates - ASUs / ESUs patch installs when you this error message is found:

This document will list issues when the error message "[DATABASE_CONNECT_FAILED] Database Connection failed for DataSource xxx " is found for Software Updates (ESUs and ASUs installs) only.

Scenario 1 - Cannot Install ESUs After Install 9.0 TR8.98.2.0. Error: Login Failed for User "sa" - [ DATABASE CONNECT FAILED ] Database Connection failed for DataSource System Local.

Scenario 2 - ESU Install Fails With Error: "[DATABASE_CONNECT_FAILED] Database Connection failed for DataSource Data Dictionary" and "JDB_CopyXMLToTable failed"

Scenario 3 - "[DATABASE_CONNECT_FAILED] Database Connection failed for DataSource System - 900" Error in Software Updates Application (P96470) Due to Incorrect Setting in JDBJ.INI

Scenario 4 - Issue Applying Planner ESUs with 9.0 Due to TCP/IP Connection Failure - Errors: [DATABASE_CONNECT_FAILED] Database Connection failed for DataSource Data Dictionary - 900 - The TCP/IP connection to the host SERVER, port 1433 has failed. Error: "connect timed out".

Scenario 5 - When attempting to apply an ESU using P96470, the grid will not populate due to TCP/IP configuration errors

Scenario 6 - ESU Install Fails With Errors:[DATABASE_CONNECT_FAILED] Database Connection failed for DataSource Data Dictionary and JDB_CopyXMLToTable failed - Specific to DB2 / as400 as the system database
