Purpose

Overview

Free goods are typically promotional items. For example, a promotion might be run that gives the customer 1 free case of motor oil when they buy 10 cases. Free goods can also be items that help promote, display, or accompany the product that a customer orders, such as a display case, posters, or promotional items such as buttons or hats. A valid adjustment must be created to which the free goods are attached. When setting up the free goods criteria, the user can define how the system applies the price and quantity of the free goods, and how the system should factor the price of the free goods into the price of the products that are actually being sold.

Free goods can be used with Line Level, Basket Level, and Order Level adjustments, but not with Volume Level adjustments - the "Free Goods" option is removed from the Row Exit menu.
