Before the advent of IRS electronic filing, client had to submit their 1099 data via Magnetic Tape Media. This required that the Summary report 4804/4802 (R04515) information be provided to the IRS. This also provided preparers verification that the printed forms data would be the same as the magnetic media data.
Provide an Electronic Filing Summary Report 4804/4802 (R04515) when submitting the P04515A to create a text file for the IRS. While this is not a requirement to file electronically, this will assist preparers to ascertain that the text file is complete and thus avoid IRS rejection or filing penalties
