JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Sales Order Processing - Version XE and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Purpose

Sometimes a new product launch is highly anticipated and initial quantities are allocated to distributors which sell out fast. In some cases the distributor promises a portion of their initial allocation to their largest customers. JD Edwards EnterpriseOne does have a Product Allocation Preference which can specify how much inventory is allocated to specific customers, but orders are soft committed on a first come/first serve basis, so there is nothing to prevent all the inventory from being allocated and committed to other customers before the larger customers have had a chance to place their order.

There needs to be a way to sell a limited initial quantity of items to any customer who wants it while at the same time setting aside and protecting a portion of the initial quantity for specific large customers who have been promised a certain allocation. This document provides one approach that can be used to satisfy this requirement.
