The Simplified Navigation available starting with Tools 9.1.5 is a set of user interface (UI) feature restrictions only applied to the Simplified Mode, KIOSK Mode or both in a web application container (not applied to Portal Container). The purpose of this set of features is to restrict the user from accessing other applications which are not published to them by an admin through E1 Pages.
Each E1 user session has to be in one of these two modes. The mode is calculated based on the login user and role, and the corresponding simplified UI setting of the user/role profiles and user role relationship setup. When the user session is in Simplified Mode, the UI of the E1 menu will be rendered with the new feature called Simplified Navigation Feature. E1 Menu navigation and fast path are not available and the user can only visit the existing E1 Page(s) or user profile application. This mode is designed for users who only need very limited application access to E1 and it prevents the potential IT support overhead by reducing the unnecessary exposure to other system functionalities with this user group.
If the user session is in Standard Mode, the user still has the same full access to all system functionalities and applications.
NOTE: Standard mode is the traditional login interface and is the default.
An administrator can mark an individual user or role as simplified user or role so that System can determine if the user session is Simplified or Standard Mode based on the following rules.
If login user has simplified mode checked in the user profile, the user session is simplified mode.
If login user has simplified mode unchecked and login role is not *ALL, the Simplified/Standard mode of user session is determined by the simplified mode setting in the role profile.
If login user has simplified mode unchecked and login role is *ALL, the Simplified/Standard mode of user session is determined based on if all the roles include by “*ALL” have simplified mode setting checked. In other words, if all of these roles have simplified mode setting checked, the user session is in Simplified Mode; otherwise, the user session is in Standard Mode.
Note: If using tools release 9.1.5 or newer (with IE10 or IE11), be certain you remove the URL from the Compatibility View settings and the check box for Display intranet sites in Compatibility View or you could have issues with not seeing the option under Preferences.
