Can you please provide some information on CORS and if they can be allowed on AIS server in JDEdwards?

You have custom script on 1 server and AIS server on the different server.
There is a chrome browser security to turn on accept cross domain requests (CORS). If you have this on, then custom request fails with:
XMLHttpRequest cannot load http://<MACHINE>:xxxx/jderest/defaultconfig.
Response to preflight request doesn't pass access control check: No 'Access-Control-Allow-Origin' header is present on the requested resource. Origin "http://<MACHINE>" is therefore not allowed access.

If you turn CORS off, then it works fine.

To turn it off, you have to open the chrome using a command prompt using the below command:
